Slow Roller Ground Ball Series
A slow roller is any ground ball that is hit slow enough that the player must field and throw the baseball on the run. Being able to field and throw on the run consistently is an important aspect playing infield at an advanced level. There are 3 types of slow roller fielding positions that we will focus on throughout our infield series.

Slow Roller Ground Ball Overview
Outside Slow Roller
An outside slow roller is a ball that is hit at you or to the right of center that is hit slow enough that you must field and throw on the run.
Outside Slow Roller
Fielding Position & Footwork

Ball should be charged and fielded on the run with one hand outside of the left foot
-
Momentum should be moving back towards the target
-
Glove Position: slight flexion in the wrist with fingers back
-
Center the ball and get to the power position as our right foot hits the ground
-
Delay the right step through by lifting the knee up to allow for time to get to the power position

Restart backside and throw
**If multiple steps are required, always initiate throw off right foot.
Inside Slow Roller
An inside slow roller is a ball that is hit at you or to the left of center that is hit slow enough that you must field and throw on the run.
Inside Slow Roller
Fielding Position & Footwork:

Ball should be charged and fielded on the run with two hands inside of the left foot

Momentum should be moving back towards the target
-
Glove Position: slight flexion in the wrist with fingers back

Top hand remains at 45 degrees over the glove

Center the ball and get to the power position as our right foot hits the ground

Delay the right step through by lifting the knee up to allow for time to get to the power position

Barehand Slow Roller
A barehand slow roller is a ball that is hit to the right or left of center that is hit slow enough that you must field with a barehand and throw on the run.
Barehand Slow Roller
Fielding Position & Footwork

Ball should be charged and fielded on the run with your barehand inside of the left foot

Momentum should ideally be moving back towards the target
-
Hand Position: slight flexion in the wrist with fingers back

Center the ball and get to the power position as our right foot hits the ground
-
Delay the right step through by lifting the knee up to allow for time to get to the power position
